About Martin Reads

Martin County joined the Florida Campaign for Grade-Level Reading in 2014.

Martin Reads is a campaign lead by the Children’s Services Council of Martin County to increase the number of children reading on grade-level.

Important Martin County Statistics and Data

Only 54% of children in Martin County are reading on grade-level by 3rd grade.
The state average is 58%
Only 50% of children entering kindergarten in Martin County are considered “Ready for Kindergarten”.
The state average is 53%
49.5% of 3 and 4 year old children are not enrolled in an Early Childhood Education Center.

English Language Learners
At present, we have 2,410 students enrolled at the Martin County School District that represents 42 different languages.

Title 1 Schools in Martin County

A Title 1 school is a school that receives federal funds for Title 1 students. The number of students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program (at least 51%) determines the eligibility to receive Title 1 Funds.

The number of Title I schools in Martin County has increased from four (4) schools in 2009 to (10) schools in 2019.
