Summary: The HERO Challenge (Helping Each Other Realize Opportunities) is an innovative program that combines one-on-one and group mentoring with at-risk youth. The program’s goal is to create a close-knit network of support that educates and inspires at-risk youth to triumph over delinquency, truancy, gangs and other negative behaviors. The program is located at the Boys & Girls Club’s East Stuart, Port Salerno and Hobe Sound branches.

Summary:This program deploys 50 AmeriCorps Members into 10 Martin County Schools to improve educational outcomes for youth in grades K-8. The AmeriCorp Members deliver literacy interventions to elementary students who are performing below grade level in English Language Arts and provide mentoring/intervention services to middle school students at risk of dropping out of school.
